Lodging

If you live more than 80 miles from the courthouse, and the reporting time makes travel inconvenient, you may receive reimbursement of $328 per night from June through February; $382 per night from March through May, and during the duration of the trial.

The hotels listed are conveniently located in or near the Charleston downtown area. Receipts for lodging are required. Receipts for food are not required. Jurors are responsible for making their own hotel accommodations. You may ask for the government rate when making your reservation. Present your summons at check-in as proof.

Click here for Charleston hotel information. This list is provided as a courtesy, not as an endorsement. This is not an all-inclusive listing of hotel options.

If you elect lodging in excess of the reimbursement rate, you will be responsible for the overage. Jurors should use conventional lodging options (e.g. hotels, motels) for official travel. Non-conventional lodging, properties, or lodging providers (e.g. Airbnb, VRBO, Homeaway) are not eligible for reimbursements.

Should you have questions, please contact the Jury Division by email at Jury@scd.uscourts.gov or call (803)253-3382 during regular business hours.

Parking

Parking is available at 85 Queen Street in the Charleston County Parking Garage. Other downtown parking garages, located at 90 Cumberland Street and 93 Queen Street, are available within walking distance of the courthouse. You may park in any garage you choose. Parking is expected to be $20; cash, credit, and debit cards are accepted. You will be reimbursed for parking in your check. If parked at a meter, put a copy of the summons on the passenger side of your dashboard. We cannot reimburse you for parking tickets or towing fees.

Residence

The District of South Carolina is divided into four large jury areas which may require travel to a courthouse some distance from one's home. Since all jurors are selected randomly by computer, a person may be summoned to a courthouse which is not the closest Federal Courthouse to their home. Residing in one of the following counties makes you eligible to serve in Charleston.

Beaufort Colleton Jasper
Berkeley Dorchester
Charleston Georgetown
Clarendon Hampton

If you have moved and no longer reside in one of the above counties, please send a letter to Clerk of Court, 901 Richland Street, Columbia, SC 29201 and you will be excused.
