Lodging

If you reside more than 80 miles from the courthouse, you are authorized to spend the night. Bring enough money to last for several days in case you are selected to serve on a case starting after jury selection.

Some hotels offer discounts to federal jurors so ask for the room rate since government rates are seasonal and subject to availability. Present your jury summons at check-in and verify the rate. You will be reimbursed for food, lodging and mileage at the rates indicated on your summons.

Parking is free on the streets surrounding the courthouse.

Residence

The District of South Carolina is divided into three large jury areas which may require travel to a courthouse some distance from one's home. Since all jurors are selected randomly by computer, a person may be summoned to a courthouse which is not the closest Federal Courthouse to their home. Residing in one of the following counties makes you eligible to serve in Aiken, Beaufort and Charleston.

If you have moved and no longer reside in one of the above counties, please send a letter to Clerk of Court, 901 Richland Street, Columbia, SC 29201 and you will be excused.

Driving Directions/Map

From the South (Savannah):
Take US Hwy 17 North/GA-25 Alt. North to US Hwy17 Alt. North. US Hwy 17 Alt. North becomes US Hwy 17 North. Turn right onto Hwy SC-170. Turn left onto Hwy SC-170 North/Okatie Hwy. Turn slight right onto US Hwy 21/Boundary Street, then another right onto US Hwy 21/Hwy SC-281/Ribaut Road. Turn left onto North Street, then a slight right onto Bay Street. The courthouse will be on the left side.

From the East (Columbia):
Take I-26 East to I-95 South. Take I-95 South to exit number 169A toward Savannah. Merge onto US Hwy 17 North via exit number 33 toward Charleston/Beaufort. Turn slight right onto US Hwy 21/Hwy SC-281/Ribaut Road. Turn left onto North Street, then a slight right onto Bay Street. The courthouse will be on the left side.
