Lodging

If you live more than 80 miles from the courthouse, and the reporting time makes travel inconvenient, you may receive reimbursement of $164 for the night before jury selection, and during the duration of the trial.

The hotels listed are conveniently located in or near the Columbia downtown area. Receipts for food or lodging are not required. Jurors are responsible for making their own hotel accommodations. You may ask for the government rate when making your reservation. Present your summons at check-in as proof.

Click here for Columbia hotel information. This list is provided as a courtesy, not as an endorsement. This is not an all-inclusive listing of hotel options.

If you elect lodging in excess of the reimbursement rate, you will be responsible for the overage.

Should you have questions, please contact the Jury Division by email at Jury@scd.uscourts.gov or call (803)253-3198 during regular business hours.

Parking

Park in the Public Parking Garage at the corner of Assembly and Richland Streets. The parking garage is located two blocks east of the Courthouse on Richland Street. The entrance to the garage is located on Richland Street at the white “Public Parking” sign. Visitor parking is on Level 4 and above. Do NOT park in a reserved space. You are responsible for paying the parking garage fee and you will be reimbursed for this expense in your check at the rate indicated on the summons.
If the garage is full or you do not have the money to pay the fee, you may place your summons in the windshield of your car and park at a metered space only. Do NOT park at a red meter or a "Permit Only" space. Do not park at a meter with a bag on it. We cannot reimburse you for a towing fee. If you receive a ticket for a meter violation, write your name and address on the back and give it to any court personnel.

Residence

The District of South Carolina is divided into four large jury areas which may require travel to a courthouse some distance from one's home. Since all jurors are selected randomly by computer, a person may be summoned to a courthouse which is not the closest Federal Courthouse to their home. Residing in one of the following counties makes you eligible to serve in Columbia.

Aiken Chester Lexington
Allendale Fairfield Orangeburg
Bamberg Kershaw Richland
Barnwell Lancaster Sumter
Calhoun Lee York

If you have moved and no longer reside in one of the above counties, please send a letter to Clerk of Court, 901 Richland Street, Columbia, SC 29201 and you will be excused.
