Proposed New And Revised Local Civil Rules and Local Criminal Rules
Last year, then Chief Judge Margaret B. Seymour directed the District Court Advisory Committee (the Committee) to review the Local Civil Rules and the Local Criminal Rules of the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina (local rules) for the purpose of determining whether any rules should be modified to
- reflect the implementation of electronic filing,
- conform the rules to actual current practices, or
- correct any inconsistencies or errors which may exist.
As part of the review, the Committee sought and received various comments from the District Court Bar. Additionally, the Committee worked closely with the Clerk of Court's Office during this process. The Committee's review process is now complete and proposed new and revised local rules have been presented to the Court.
Pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 2071(b) and Rule 83 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, the United States District Court for the District of South invites public comment on its proposed new and revised local rules:

The public comment period will commence August 30, 2013. The Court will consider all public comments submitted via email to Local_Rules_Public_Comments@scd.uscourts.gov . Any modification to the local rules necessary as a result of public comment will be considered after September 30, 2013, the expiration date for receiving said comments.
